Young isn't short on talent, and he's a proven winner in the NFL. Should he sign, with a career record of 31-19, he'd easily be the most experienced quarterback on Oakland's roster.
The former national champ at Texas has failed thus far in the NFL due to a poor mental approach to the game and his responsibilities as a leader, but it seems the signal-caller has finally got his mind right.
Just over a month ago, in the first week of March, Young sent a letter of apology to former head coach Jeff Fisher. Per NFL.com's Kareem Copeland, he talked about that letter and his past mistakes in an interview on NFL AM:
I definitely wanted to apologize for the things that I did...At the time being immature and not paying attention and not listening and taking my frustrations out on a lot of people wasn't the right thing to do.
Should the Raiders sign Young, no doubt the contract will be a short-term deal without much—if any—guaranteed money and heavily laden with incentives.
If he ends up playing up to his potential, Flynn might be looking at another season as a clipboard holder on the sideline.
This outcome would be frustrating for Flynn, who ended up sitting behind Russell Wilson in Seattle last year after signing a lucrative contract with the Seahawks, but it would be a huge win for the Raiders.
