First, word came out of Oakland of Reggie Mckenzie's first trade as the Raiders GM, shipping the raw, physical RG Bruce Campbell to the Carolina Panthers for the intriguing RB Mike Goodson.
Campbell, an H-W-S physical freak, showed good raw potential when he was drafted in 2010; however, he had very little time on the field and never got the chance to prove anything. In return, the Raiders received RB Mike Goodson, who has had an up-and-down career in Carolina, ranging from having three straight 100-yard games several seasons ago to being benched and contributing only on special teams.
I like the trade because I think Goodson can come in and contribute right away; however, it thins out an already very thin offensive line for the Raiders. While Campbell probably wouldn't have started, he was a solid backup, and I think this leaves the Raiders needing more offensive linemen more than ever.
The second of the two roster moves was Oakland adding veteran LB Philip Wheeler. Wheeler, who played for the Colts last year and had 80 tackles and one sack, should come in immediately and help against the run in a Raider defense that has been notorious for letting backs run all over them. He should contest for the starting spot at linebacker, and I think it is another good addition for the Raiders.
