Oakland Raiders Relocation: Latest News, Rumors, Comments on Franchise’s Future

The NFL is reportedly becoming more open to the idea of the Oakland Raiders relocating to Las Vegas.

Raiders' Las Vegas Move Would Clear Path for Chargers to Los Angeles Monday, April 4 Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reported the buzz on how the Raiders could resolve their long-term future, affording the San Diego Chargers the flexibility to move elsewhere in California.

Cole also reported Oakland owner Mark Davis is concerned about whether fans will support the Raiders for the long haul if they move to Las Vegas, and whether the city can sustain the storied franchise.

The Chargers are staying in San Diego for the 2016 campaign, but they did strike an agreement with the Los Angeles Rams in late January to share a stadium thereafter.

Vincent Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News also reported in January that if the Chargers were to flee to L.A., the Raiders would be keen to take their place in San Diego.

Matters are especially complicated for Oakland amid the potential shuffling involving these pro football organizations. The fanbase has been extremely loyal through plenty of recent losing and is just beginning to see the makings of a turnaround under new coach Jack Del Rio.

Given the exciting young core the Raiders have in place between quarterback Derek Carr, receiver Amari Cooper and pass-rusher Khalil Mack, among others, there's reason to believe Oakland fans will stick with the team.

The Raiders franchise has roots in L.A., though, so a move to a completely new market would be quite a risk, considering Las Vegas is an unproven NFL commodity. Davis' reported concerns about whether Las Vegas would provide strong support for the organization are well founded in the context of the franchise's history.
