Oakland Raiders: Franchise Tag Likely To Be Used on Richard Seymour in Offseason

According to Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group, the Oakland Raiders will likely use the franchise tag on Richard Seymour again in the offseason.

The tag was used on Seymour last offseason and after his Pro Bowl season, Al Davis is inclined to slap the tag on No. 92 once again.

There are many questions about the franchise tag since a new CBA has been reached, but that will be resolved once the league and the union come to a conclusion.

Under the old rules, Seymour would be owed 20 percent more than last year's salary of $12.4 million. Since Seymour had such a great year in 2010 with the Raiders, franchising him should be one of Al Davis' top priorities this offseason.

In his two seasons with the Raiders, Seymour has totaled 9.5 sacks and has helped the Raiders' go from 11th in the league in sacks in 2009, to second in 2010.

Seymour has been a leader for a young Raiders' defense and is a part of a very talented defensive line that includes Matt Shaughnessy, Lamarr Houston and Tommy Kelly.

Seymour's play over the past two seasons should be enough for the Raiders to keep him around for another season and possibly work out a long-term deal.

Until then, Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders should be focusing on Seymour being in a Raiders' uniform in 2011.
