First of all, Carlisle is a veteran and brings (along with Mike Briesel) valuable experience to a young, but talented offensive line. The Raiders have several players who are only working off one or two years of experience in the NFL (Jared Veldheer, Stefen Wisniewski, Bruce Campbell, Joseph Barksdale, to name a few) but have immense talent, and the presence of several veterans will only help their progression in the NFL.
Second, Oakland is rather thin along the offensive line, with the assumption that the now legally entangled Samson Satele will not be returning, and doesn't have any clear idea about a starter at right tackle. This move helps shore up the interior line.
My prediction for a starting lineup at this point would have Veldheer at LT, Briesel at LG, Wisniewski at C, Carlisle at RG and a possible free-agent acquisition or even in house player at RT. That isn't a half bad starting O-line, and if Oakland can master the new zone-blocking scheme, the front five can without a doubt dominate.
