Originally undrafted in 2010 out of the University of Memphis, Calhoun was added by the New York Giants during the college free-agency period and spent the 2010 season with the team. He appeared in seven games and caught one pass for four yards.
Calhoun was released last offseason and spent 2011 out of the NFL.
During his college career, Calhoun played in 49 games with 26 starts and finished with 212 catches for 2,981 yards and 19 scores. He holds a number of Memphis school records, including 10 games with at least 100 yards receiving, as well as catching a pass in every game during his career. The 6'4" receiver was projected by some as a seventh-round choice leading up to the 2010 draft.
In Oakland, he'll have a chance to compete for a roster spot as the team continues its roster makeover under McKenzie's guidance. Receiver is arguably the Raiders' strongest position, with Darrius Heyward-Bey, Denarius Moore, Jacoby Ford and Louis Murphy already in tow.
Calhoun participated in the team's voluntary veteran mini-camp earlier this week and showcased enough to merit a contract.
