He was sentenced to 45 days for each charge, 180 days in total. It's unknown how this will affect McClain's season at this time, but it certainly casts a shadow on his future. The incident happened on November 30 of last year, so GM Reggie McKenzie had to be fully aware of the possibility that this would happen.
On first glance, it appears the Raiders did not address McClain's position in the draft. The only real back-up middle linebacker on the roster is Travis Goethel, who has had trouble staying healthy in the past. Miles Burris, the only linebacker they drafted, was announced as an outside linebacker.
Burris actually played inside linebacker before his senior year with the Aztecs, and defensive coordinator Jason Tarver values Burris' experience as an inside and outside linebacker. Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports that Tarver said he was excited about Burris, and he would love to have him compete with their current linebackers earlier this week.
Goethel took most of the snaps inside at the team's OTA's open to the media this week, with Aaron Curry in for one sequence, according to Jerry McDonald of the Contra Costa Times. With McClain's legal troubles now looming large, Tarver could get his wish later this summer.
