Madden 13 Cover: Raiders Should Be Embarrassed by Kickers Making Madden Bracket

If there was ever a telling symbol for the struggles the Oakland Raiders have endured in recent years, it would be that the team's candidates for the cover of EA Sports' Madden NFL 13 are punter Shane Lechler and kicker Sebastian Janikowski.

That's just sad, man. I mean, c'mon, really? The kicker and the punter?

That would be like a middle reliever being on the cover of MLB 13: The Show. Then again, when you look at the Raiders closely, who really has the star power to make a case?

Yes, Darren McFadden is awesome, but he's so injury-prone his inclusion on on the cover would probably turn the "Madden Curse" into the "Madden Death Sentence."

Carson Palmer would be a worse option than Janikowski and Lechler at this point. Sorry, but it's true—his best days are in the rear-view mirror.

Solid players like Tommy Kelly and Kamerion Wimbley are probably too obscure outside of hardcore football circles. Richard Seymour is good but not longer elite.

Let's face it—Janikowski and Lechler really were the best options. Now if you'll excuse me for just one moment, I'm going to take a break from writing while I laugh...

...One second, I'm almost done. Having a hard time breathing...

...OK, I'm back. Whew, that felt good.

I'm sorry, Raiders fans, I don't mean to pile on. I have no beef with your organization. If anything, I feel bad for you. You are good, passionate fans—you deserve better. I know the Raiders were 8-8 last year, but you deserve a player or two you can get really excited about.

But hey, at this year's draft, you might find that guy. Wait, what's that? You don't have a first-round pick this year because of the Carson Palmer trade?

I'm sorry, Raiders fans. I truly am.
