Just ask Kirk Morrison and Lofa Tatupu, two relatively good linebackers who have yet to find homes.
Some of the teams who could be in the mix for a linebacker include the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants and possibly even the Philadelphia Eagles.
So for the teams looking for a linebacker, which guy is the better option?
For argument's sake let's assume that money isn't an issue and that teams are strictly worried about talent.
Last season both men had the worst seasons of their career, and while neither is old per se, they aren't the young guys they used to be.
In 2010 Morrison only recorded 89 tackles after recording 120 or more in the previous four seasons and topping 130 the previous two years. He recorded no sacks, no forced fumbles and no interceptions.
Tatupu recorded 88 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one interception in 2010 giving him a slight edge over Morrison's number. However it was a long ways from 2007, the last of three straight years where Tatupu recorded over 100 tackles.
If we are to go strictly off these guys career numbers, Morrison is probably the better player. With Tatupu there are injury concerns after he missed 11 games in 2009.
The fact of the matter is that both men are past their prime, but could be key additions to a team looking for that one last piece to the puzzle.
Based off last year, it's a toss up as to who the better linebacker will be in 2011. Obviously teams interested in signing a linebacker would have to evaluate which player better fits their needs. Morrison seems like the safer choice based off his more impressive career statistics.
