One intrepid Raiders fan at the Coliseum took it upon himself to craft a makeshift sign in the midst of Oakland’s complete drubbing Sunday at the hands of the Denver Broncos.
The result was a photo capturing one of the smuggest, most face-palming-est moments in recent memory. The image was spotted by Timothy Burke of Deadspin, and it radiates toxic amounts of Raider-y struggle.
This is the face of a man who couldn’t have been happier with his team losing, as it afforded him another chance to stick it to The Man and/or the elementary school system. It’s quite clear this man had waited to savor this moment for some time, idling away the minutes until his team was down enough points to break out the Magic Markers.
But what to write?
What simple but elegant message would tell the tale of this Raider-y season? What caustic repartee would ensorcel the network cameramen and ensure his box-lunch mug would lead the B-roll footage as ESPN discussed Dennis Allen’s future Monday morning?
The answer was too easy: “Your fired.”
Indeed, the sign—ostensibly meant for Oakland’s head coach—was misspelled. One day we might live in a world where the Raiders win Super Bowls and everyone knows the difference between "your" and "you're"—but for now, the struggle continues.
Congratulations on trending, Raiders fan. Your moment of schadenfreude in the sunshine has arrived. However, despite your best efforts, Allen may be returning for another year in Oakland.
