Demarcus Van Dyke to the Oakland Raiders: 2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Van Dyke likely made Al Davis swoon when he broke 4.3 seconds in the 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Van Dykes speed and quickness are unquestionably elite and he has showed the ability to make NFL caliber plays during his four years at Miami.  He has all the physical tools to be a successful corner in the NFL.

However, Van Dyke has never fully committed to football as he also ran varsity track in Coral Gables.  He will have to have to fully commit to being a football player if he wants to find any success in the NFL.

Additionally, the 6’1" Van Dyke weighs in at a mere 176 lbs soaking wet making size another huge concern NFL teams.

As impressive as the track star’s 4.25 40 time is, his pathetic five reps on the combine bench press will be equally as important to NFL teams looking for a CB who can play press coverage with Anquan Bolden and Hines Ward.

If he can add 10 pounds of muscle to his frame without losing any speed he could be a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.

Van Dyke's combine 40 times of 4.25 and 4.28 proved he has the speed to transition to the next level, and his Miami workout provided a great stage for his plus quickness. Size may be the defensive back's biggest issue. Standing 6-0 3/4 and 176 pounds, Van Dyke has a thin build that could use some filling out. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Van Dyke is an Al Davis special if there ever was one.  He is one of the most athletic players in the draft and will probably see quite a bit of playing time next season as Al likes "his guys" to play regardless if the coach thinks they are ready or not.

This would have been a terrible pick in the second round.  Still not great in the third.
