Looking for the bright spots on this team has been a difficult task, especially with a 3-10 record and a defense that came into Thursday night's game ranked 28th in the league.
The Raiders will likely face another offseason of rebuilding, trying to find something that will work for the team.
But at wide receiver, at least, they have an asset in Rod Streater.
Streater's evening was one of the few high points for the Raiders during a 26-13 loss to the Denver Broncos. Streater's numbers for the game: four catches for 100 yards.
Coming into the game, Streater only had 24 receptions for 329 yards and three touchdowns. On the surface that's fairly mediocre, but then consider his average of 13.9 yards per reception.
That shows an inkling of a receiver ready to bust out as soon as he can get a decent number of targets. Streater also has youth on his side at only 24 years old.
I could think of a lot of teams that would love to have Streater. The Raiders are lucky to be the team that does have him.
Streater provides a foundation for the future. Right now the Raiders have Carson Palmer at quarterback. However, considering his struggles since Oakland traded for him, one has to wonder how much longer that will last. One good idea for Palmer would be to locate Streater in the field more often. This should at least ensure that Palmer will be Oakland's starting quarterback in 2013.
The Raiders' present isn't a good one. There's no way around it. But with a rising star in Streater, their future does look just a bit brighter. Wide receiver isn't an issue with Oakland going forward.
Now the question is who can get the ball to Streater and Oakland's other wideouts.
