Ben Heeney, Raiders LB, Shares Photo of Car Accident on Instagram

Oakland Raiders linebacker Ben Heeney was involved in a car wreck on the morning of Easter Sunday in Kansas, but he and all others involved in the crash came away unscathed.

The 23-year-old University of Kansas alum described the harrowing experience on Instagram:

After registering 33 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 15 games for the Raiders as a rookie in 2015, Heeney figures to play an important role in 2016, and he is certainly lucky to have that opportunity on the heels of what happened Sunday.

Heeney was a revelation of sorts for the Raiders as a fifth-round pick, and head coach Jack Del Rio is encouraged with what he has in the instinctual linebacker, per Herbie Teope of the Topeka Capital-Journal:

Heeney is currently penciled into the lineup with former Seattle Seahawks Bruce Irvin and Malcolm Smith on either side in the wake of the team releasing former starting inside linebacker Curtis Lofton.

The Raiders have all of the makings of an up-and-coming team with a chance to push for a playoff spot in 2016 due largely to their young talent on both sides of the ball, and Heeney is an underrated part of that core.

Sunday's incident could have put him out of commission for the 2016 campaign or even worse, but thanks to his good fortune, the upcoming season has a chance to be a memorable one for both himself and the Raiders.
