Aaron Curry Activated from the PUP List and Other AFC News

It’s been an interesting year for Aaron Curry. The former first-round draft pick was traded to the Oakland Raiders last season and inserted immediately into the starting lineup at outside linebacker. When Reggie McKenzie took control of the football operations, he restructured Curry’s deal to keep him in Oakland. McKenzie proceeded to bring in a couple outside linebackers via free agency and the draft.

It’s a good thing McKenzie drafted Miles Burris, because Curry never passed his physical and was placed on the Physically-Unable-To-Perform list, which forced him to miss all of training camp and the first eight games of the season with a knee issue.

With the deadline approaching, the Raiders were going to have to make a decision on whether to activate Curry or place him on season-ending injured reserve. According to the team's official twitter account, the team activated Aaron Curry and waived linebacker Vic So'oto to make room for him on the active roster.

After a very poor game by Rolando McClain against the Bucs, the Raiders could some extra help on defense. Activating Curry and using him at middle linebacker in the base D would further reduce the Raiders' exposure to McClain’s poor play.

The Raiders are also faced with the decision on whether or not to start cornerback Ron Bartell before Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. Oakland could use some help in the secondary as they currently rank 21st in the NFL against the pass.

Along with Shawntae Spencer and Khalif Barnes, the Raiders could get four injured starters back on Sunday if they are lucky. Unfortunately, getting them back will not return the team to full strength with Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson nursing high-ankle sprains.
