It was the first pick of the draft for Oakland, who traded their first-round draft pick to the New England Patriots in a trade for defensive lineman Richard Seymour. Wisniewski was the first Penn State player drafted in the NFL draft this year. He started each of Penn State's 13 games in 2010 and earned first team All-American honors in addition to excelling in the classroom.
Wisniewski is a "leader of the line and he leads by example," says NFL draft analyst Matthew Elder of Elder Scouting. He is the "anchor of the PSU line who is a very good pass and run blocker. The kind of guy who has a 10-15 year NFL career. Great pick!" Elder gave the draft pick an "A" grade following the selection.
Wisniewski entered the NFL Draft as one of the top two rated centers in the draft, but he also can play the guard position if needed. He played guard for the Nittany Lions last season after playing center in 2009.
Steve Wisniewski, also a former Penn State standout, is currently an assistant coach working with the offensive line for the Raiders.
