Timofey Mozgov Reportedly to Sign with Lakers: Latest Contract Details, Reaction

Former Cleveland Cavaliers center Timofey Mozgov verbally agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers early Friday morning, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

CBS Sports' Ken Berger confirmed the two sides agreed in principle to a "multiyear deal."

Mozgov, 29, never clicked with the Cavs last season, averaging just 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in 17.4 minutes per game. He did start 48 games for the team during the regular season, though Tristan Thompson was Cleveland's top option at center throughout the postseason and is the organization's future at the position.

That made Mozgov expendable, and it also made him a prime target for teams looking to add veteran depth to their frontcourts once he hit the market.

While the Lakers won't be getting a superstar, Mozgov is a solid rebounder who can chip in with some points down on the block. He's capable of starting in the frontcourt and is a strong pick-and-roll finisher, according to The Ringer's Jonathan Tjarks:

He's a nice piece for any contending team, but the Lakers will be expecting him to play a bigger role and offer more productivity than he did with Cleveland in 2015-16.

While the price for Mozgov is rich, adding the soon-to-be 30-year-old to the Lakers core makes sense personnel-wise.

Roy Hibbert, Robert Sacre and Tarik Black comprised the Lakers' depth chart at center last season, but all three are headed for free agency. Hibbert and Sacre are unrestricted and free to sign with any team, while the Lakers will be able to match all offers for Black after extending him a qualifying offer, according to the Los Angeles Daily News' Mark Medina.

For a team that finished last season ranked 24th in defensive rebounding, 21st in total rebounding and 24th in blocks, the Lakers could use a sure thing at center.
