NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers Shouldn’t Hesitate to Trade Steve Nash

If the Los Angeles Lakers can find a team crazy enough to take ancient point guard Steve Nash, they should thank their lucky stars and make the trade. 

According to HOOPSWORLD's Alex Kennedy, the Toronto Raptors may be that crazy: 



The move would make some sense for the Raptors (2-1). 

At the point guard position, they have Kyle Lowry playing solid basketball. He's putting up 13.7 points and 5.3 assists per game.



But D.J. Augustin is backing up Lowry and doesn't offer much. In three games this season, he's playing 13.3 minutes per game and putting up just 3.7 points per contest.

The acquisition of Nash would help solidify that position, and it would bring the Canadian basketball legend to his home side of the border. 

So, Lakers fans have reason to hope this deal could go through, and they should definitely be hoping. 

The 39-year-old Nash arrived with much fanfare to Los Angeles prior to last season. As the Lakers completely underwhelmed, Nash spent much of that season dealing with nagging injuries and not finding a role on the team when he could get on the court. 

He played 32.5 minutes per game and averaged 12.7 points and 6.7 assists.

He also brought what is some of the worst defense in the league. 



This year, Nash is playing 24.3 minutes per game while scoring seven points and 5.3 assists. Decent numbers, but nothing to get excited about.

He does remain a good shooter and knows how to get others the ball in a position to succeed. However, it would be absolutely foolish for the Lakers (2-2) to think that Nash's presence is the difference between the team winning a championship this year or not, and for the Lakers, it is championship or nothing when it comes to having a successful season.
