With all eyes in "Lakers Land" geared towards the offseason, Los Angeles Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has to figure out what to do with Ramon Sessions and the point guard position.
Looking at how things could potentially play out, the Lakers may be better off without Sessions heading into the 2013 season.
Sessions certainly wants to come back to Los Angeles, telling Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Times exactly that during the Lakers' exit interviews after their season came to a close at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder.
While Sessions also indicated to HoopsWorld's Alex Kennedy that he would like to return to the Lakers, he also left no indication that he would exercise his $4.55 million player option to return.
Financially speaking, Sessions would be foolish to pick up that option as his value to the Lakers right now is far greater than possibly any other team in the NBA.
He holds all the cards in possible negotiations as if the 2012 season proved anything, the Lakers need Sessions far more than he needs the Lakers. He can definitely sign a contract for more money, either in Los Angeles or elsewhere.
That's where Kupchak needs to draw the line.
Sessions proved he's a good point guard, averaging a solid 12.7 points and 6.2 assists during the regular season, despite having very little practice time and having to learn a new offense on the fly.
Yet the Lakers need an upper-level floor general that's capable of winning in the playoffs and Sessions left plenty of doubts about whether or not he could be that guy.
He averaged only 9.7 points and 3.6 assists in the postseason, while shooting only 38 percent from the floor and had a lot of trouble getting the Lake Show into their offensive sets.
