Los Angeles Should Target C.J. Miles in Free Agency

After Lamar Odom was traded to the Dallas Mavericks last winter, the Lakers struggled to find consistent scoring off the bench. While players like Steve Blake, Andrew Goudelock and Matt Barnes stepped up from time to time, Los Angeles lacked a player who could consistently score for their second unit. 

Signing Antawn Jamison was a big move, but Los Angeles will need someone else they can count on if they want to win the title this spring. Signing C.J. Miles would make sense, as he's an athletic guard/forward who can score and has playoff experience.

The Lakers have yet to use their mini-midlevel exception this offseason and should consider using it on Miles. He averaged 9.1 points per game last year and has averaged 8.4 points per game for his career. While Miles is not a great shooter, he is very effective at attacking the basket.

Utah has not shown a lot of interest in Miles this offseason, which makes sense considering their young core. Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward are the future of the Jazz, so having Miles on the team isn't as important as it was a few years ago.

While Christian Eyenga and Andrew Goudelock may someday have prominent roles with Los Angeles, neither are ready to help the Lakers win the title next year. Miles has much more experience than Goudelock and Eyenga combined and would be much more reliable for Los Angeles in the playoffs.
