Sun Yue became the fifth Chinese basketball player in the NBA, but he only played in 10 games with the Lakers.
Prior to his NBA arrival, Yue was a young star for the ABA's Beijing Olympians. At 22 years old, Yue averaged 13.5 points, six rebounds, and 10.5 assists per game.
He looked fantastic during a pre-draft camp and, because of that, the Lakers gave him a shot. He was the 40th overall pick in the 2007 draft.
Yue didn't immediately sign with the Lakers. He decided to play another year in China before finally signing with them in the summer of 2008.
He made his NBA debut that December against the Milwaukee Bucks. In five minutes, Yue scored four points.
For the rest of the season, Yue got sparse playing time.
In 10 games, he averaged 2.8 minutes and just 0.6 points per game. He was on the playoff roster, but was never activated for a game.
Since he was on the team, he did receive a ring and was crowned as an NBA champion. He is the first ethnic Chinese player to ever win an NBA title.
Despite having a short stint of glory, Yue was released by the Lakers. The New York Knicks signed him and gave him a shot, but they waived him before the start of the 2009-2010 season.
With nowhere to go, Yue went back to China. He is now playing for the team he started with— the Beijing Olympians.
Yue has played for China's national team several times, and there's a good chance we'll see him during this year's Olympics. A good performance there may capture the eyes of some NBA scouts.
