Los Angeles Lakers Where Are They Now?: Catching Up with Coby Karl

Coby Karl isn't going to be remembered for his NBA career. 

In fact, his last name is mostly associated with his legendary father George Karl, who is currently the head coach of the Denver Nuggets.

When Coby played for the Lakers, his name was extremely recognizable, but it wasn't because of anything he did.

Karl played 17 games in a Laker uniform back in 2007-08 and he became a fan favorite as a bench warmer. There seemed to be a buzz at Staples Center every time Karl stepped onto the floor during blowout games.

He was essentially the Luke Walton of 2008 for the Lakers.

After scoring just 1.8 points in a little over four minutes per game, Karl was let go by the Lakers that October.

Karl then crossed the pond and finished the 2009 season in Spain with a team called Joventut Badalona.

Karl then tried out with the Cleveland Cavaliers and made the team as a reserve the following season. However, he was later cut by the Cavs in 2010 and he joined the Golden State Warriors on a ten-day contract.

Unable to stay on the team, he was sent to the D-League. 

After that contract expired, Karl signed with his father's team, the Denver Nuggets, but he never played a game as he was released before the 2010-11 season even started.

Karl was no longer able to find an NBA suitor and he has since played overseas.

In late 2010, he signed with Granada in Spain. Karl's luck wouldn't turn around, though. His team would be relegated and Karl signed with an Italian team called Armani Jeans Milano.

Yes, folks.

Karl now plays for Fabi Shoes Montegranaro in Italy.

It's unlikely we'll ever see Karl in the NBA again. That being said, at least he's found a job in Europe and he seems to be doing well overseas.
