Los Angeles Lakers: Metta World Peace Is Working on His Fitness

What has Metta World Peace been doing during his seven-game suspension?

He's been putting in work.

Via ESPN LA's Dave McMenamin:

Metta World Peace has stayed busy through the first four games of his seven-game suspension in a variety of ways. According to his Twitter account, he has been recording tracks for his upcoming mix tape, entitled "Passion." He has been waking up for 5 a.m. workouts and tweeting the results, whether it be a picture of his chiseled abs or a chart tracking how he has changed his body -- in December he weighed 267.8 pounds, in April he was down to 246.5. He has recorded his podcast, "Mettaphorically Speaking: The Ron & Metta Show." He even booked an appearance on "Conan" for next week.

We all know how out-of-shape World Peace looked when media day finally rolled around. Check this photo of a fitness chart that he posted to his Twitter account.

Those 5 a.m. workouts are no joke. Clearly, they've been paying off.

Remember when Kobe Bryant went down with that shin injury at the end of the season? World Peace looked as though he'd taken a trip in a time machine and gone back to his scoring days. It's amazing what being lighter on your feet can do for you.

Good for World Peace. He doesn't always make the right decisions—there is a reason why he's currently serving that seven-game suspension—but it's neat to see him continue to work throughout the season and to have that progress charted in numbers.

Maybe next season there won't be so much work to do when he shows up to training camp.
