The Lakers converted nine of their first 12 trey attempts Wednesday and finished the game 18 of 37 from beyond the arc. It was a true team effort as Jordan Farmar led the way with five treys, while Wes Johnson and Kendall Marshall each hit four. Ryan Kelly made three and Steve Blake pitched in another pair.
Given the long list of superstars to suit up for the Lakers, it's pretty amazing that the aforementioned players were able to set a franchise record. Los Angeles dressed just eight men for Wednesday's game, and you could make a strong argument that none of those eight would start for a playoff-caliber team.
The Lakers' lack of depth led to an interesting scenario Wednesday, after Farmar and Nick Young suffered injuries and Chris Kaman fouled out. Robert Sacre picked up his sixth foul at the 3:31 mark of the fourth quarter but was allowed to stay in the game, as his absence would have left the Lakers with just four healthy players. Had Sacre committed a foul from that point on, the foul would have counted as a technical.
Fortunately for the Lakers, Sacre was able to stay out of trouble, and the team clung to its lead until Blake hit three-pointer No. 18 to put the game away with 56 seconds remaining. Blake's record-setting dagger also gave the 33-year-old guard a triple-double, as he finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists.
Typically, Blake's triple-double and the franchise record for three-pointers would garner plenty of attention, but Wednesday's odd game will mostly be remembered for Sacre playing with six fouls in a scenario that we may not see again.
