Lakers Rumors: Sasha Vujacic in Touch with Lakers, Wants to Return to LA

Sasha Vujacic wants to return to the NBA after his stint playing abroad, and he has the Los Angeles Lakers firmly in his sights.

According to Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles, Vujacic's "top choice" is to return to the Lakers.

The Lakers have put a premium on targeting outside shooting during the offseason in an effort to get players that could thrive under Mike D'Antoni, and Vujacic shouldn't come at a major cost if the Lakers are interested in bringing him back.

Vujacic last played in the NBA during the 2010-11 season for the then New Jersey Nets (now in Brooklyn), averaging 11.4 points while shooting 36.9 percent from behind the three-point line. For his NBA career, Vujacic is a 37.1 percent shooter from distance.

The Slovenian sharpshooter spent the last two seasons in the Turkish Basketball League. He averaged 9.1 points per game during the 2012-13 season.

With Jodie Meeks already in the fold, it's hard to see how Vujacic might fit in.

The Lakers need insurance at shooting guard behind Meeks and Kobe Bryant, but they're likely to explore every option before committing to anyone.

It's a nice stroll down memory lane for Lakers fans who remember watching Vujacic in purple and gold, but the team needs to focus on the future and not the past.

If Los Angeles is serious about improving its long-term outlook, it needs to target guys who can help at both ends of the floor rather than a "specialist."

It's not crazy to think that Vujacic and the Lakers could eventually have a reunion, but the team won't commit to anything earlier than necessary, especially with Dwight Howard's future in L.A. up in the air.
