The explosive guard, who spent three seasons and won two rings with the Lake Show from 2008 through 2011, was shipped from the Phoenix Suns to the Washington Wizards in yesterday's Marcin Gortat-Emeka Okafor deal.
But according to NBA.com's David Aldridge and Hoopsworld's Steve Kyler, the Wiz are planning to waive Brown, and when that happens, the Lakers are reportedly interested in bringing him back to L.A.:
Is Brown going to significantly sway the Lakers' final win total one way or another? Probably not, but he's an athletic, capable role player and Los Angeles fan favorite who would likely come aboard on a minimum deal.
One of the more athletic guards in the NBA, Brown has played right around 20 minutes per contest over the last four seasons. During his last two in Phoenix, he averaged 10.7 points, 1.5 assists and 0.9 steals.
While he's not the most versatile player around, the 27-year-old has size and athleticism. He can score, and he can guard, and he would serve as a terrific fit in Mike D'Antoni's second unit.
With Steve Nash's age (he missed 32 games last season) and Kobe Bryant's health questions, adding backcourt depth in the form of Brown, a proven role player and someone who has already enjoyed success in Los Angeles, makes oodles of sense.
But while oodles is tough to argue with, there are cons to the move.
Most notably, the Lakers roster is a little crowded. The other guards on the roster—Jordan Farmar, Steve Blake, Jodie Meeks and Xavier Henry—all seem to have carved out roles already, while Nick Young and Wes Johnson will likely hold down the small forward position.
