L.A. Lakers Reportedly to Hire Mike Brown as New Head Coach

The Lakers head coaching search has come to an end according to CBS Sports. The Lakers are set to hire Mike Brown—former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach—to replace retiring head coach Phil Jackson.

The deal said to be a four-year, $18 million contract will have Brown coaching Lakers star Kobe Bryant through the rest of his quality years left in the NBA.

Brown, of course, is no stranger to coaching a NBA superstar having coached former Cavs and current Heat player LeBron James, leading the Cavs to the 2007 NBA Finals.

Having experience with one of the leagues biggest stars will benefit Brown as he attempts to guide the Lakers back to their championship ways in the coming years.

Brown beat out other coaching candidates such as Rick Adleman, former Lakers head coach Mike Dunleavy and Lakers assistant coach and former player Brian Shaw.

Shaw being passed up is sure to tick-off the Laker faithful as he was the fan favorite for the job. Shaw was a solid candidate due to him being an assistant for the Lakers since 2004—so he would keep the current triangle offense in place from former coach Phil Jackson—so he already knows the players and organization and Shaw was also teammates with Kobe on the Lakers three-peat teams of 2000, 2001 and 2002.

It will be interesting to see who Brown brings in with him to the Lakers as Shaw is destined to take over the head coaching reigns for another NBA team—possibly the Golden State Warriors—sometime this summer.
