L.A. Lakers: Breaking Down Pau Gasol’s True Trade Value

Pau Gasol will not command the trade price that he once did.

Before the 2011-2012 season, Gasol was highly sought after, despite having flamed out a bit in the Mavericks-Lakers 2011 playoff sweep. Despite his advancing age, many teams were willing to take a gamble on the league's most skilled big man.

The terrain has changed a bit with Andrew Bynum's emergence and the decrease in Pau's Laker role. Playing him alongside another big man (Bynum's minutes total went to 35 MPG) has decreased Gasol's trade value.

Teams that were once willing to pay Pau's $19 million contract now may be a bit hesitant.

The Lakers, of course, are one of those squads hesitant to pay Pau's salary. The soon-to-be 32-year-old is still incredibly skilled, but such skills are not as coveted as they once were.
