Jordan Hill’s Felony Charge and Its Effect on the Los Angeles Lakers

TMZ.com is reporting that Los Angeles Lakers forward Jordan Hill has been charged with felony assault for allegedly choking his 28-year-old girlfriend Darlene Luna. The incident reportedly took place on February 29 in Texas, before Hill joined the Lakers.

He is expected in Texas to address the felony charge, and if he is convicted, Hill could face up to 10 years in prison.

According to ESPN, "After paperwork is complete, a warrant for his arrest will be issued." Details are still coming out, but as of now, charges have reportedly been filed against Hill by the Harris County District Attorney in Houston.

This is a blow to the young player and the Lakers.

He's been a playmaker in recent games, scoring some crucial points. In Game 1 against the Denver Nuggets, Hill had a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots in just 24 minutes.

Hill, 24, was drafted by the New York Knicks in 2009. He's averaging five points and 4.8 rebounds a game and was looking like he could be a big asset to the Lakers' already tall lineup.

After reporting to the Texas court, Hill will be expected back in Los Angeles. Coach Mike Brown said that it's his understanding that Hill would be available for game two against the Nuggets.

Luckily for L.A., Hill was not in the regular rotation, so it won't throw a huge wrench into the team's game plan. But this is certainly another setback for the Lakers, who are already hurting right now with the loss of Metta World Peace to suspension.

It is important to keep in mind that as of now he's been charged, not convicted.
