D’Angelo Russell Comments on Relationship with Nick Young After Leaked Video

Los Angeles Lakers point guard D'Angelo Russell isn't sure his relationship with teammate Nick Young will recover after a video of the latter discussing possible infidelity leaked in March. 

Russell secretly recorded the video involving Young, who is engaged to rapper Iggy Azalea. As seen in the following video, courtesy of TMZ Sports, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2015 NBA draft was asked about the situation last weekend:



When asked by TMZ if he and Young would be "cool next year," Russell didn't have a definitive answer: "I don't know. Only time will tell, right?" 

Russell became a social pariah of sorts immediately following the incident, and he was even booed by his home fans at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.



The 20-year-old did show some on-court flashes of brilliance down the stretch, though, and he finished the season with per-game averages of 13.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists despite coming off the bench for much of the campaign.

In spite of his misstep, Russell seems to be a key factor in the Lakers' rebuild and attempt to return to prominence.

The same cannot necessarily be said for Young, who is entering the final year of his contract before a player option in 2017-18, per Spotrac.com.

The 30-year-old veteran is coming off the worst season of his career, as he averaged just 7.3 points per game and shot 33.9 percent from the field.

While the Lakers aren't expected to contend for a playoff spot next season after going 17-65, some level of progress is needed in order to provide the fanbase with hope that brighter days are ahead.

A young core of Russell, Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson, along with a high draft pick, provides some reason for optimism, although a poor locker room vibe could hurt the team's ability to take the next step.
