Chris Kaman on Potentially Being Traded Before Deadline: ‘I Don’t Care’

If Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak decides to deal Chris Kaman prior to the Feb. 20 trade deadline, the center has a message for him: He doesn't care.

Here's what Kaman had to say when asked about the potential of being traded, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles:

I don't care, I honestly don't care. It's not something that I want to do, but it's not going to make me go to sleep at night and have to stay awake all night tossing and turning thinking about it. I don't care. If they want to trade somebody, trade me, trade the next guy, it don't bother me. It's part of the business. The sooner that you realize it's a part of the business, the better off you're going to be. Just let it roll and let it happen. I'm not going to try to stop anything.

It sounds kind of cliche, especially since we hear athletes regurgitate the answer when asked about being traded or where they'll go in the draft, but you can only worry about what you can control. Clearly Kaman's got that down.

One of the things he can control is his play on the court...when he gets on the court, that is. So far Kaman has only appeared in 25 games for the Lake Show, yet he's been somewhat productive when given a chance.

He's averaging 8.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 16.6 minutes per game. The center is also shooting 50.3 percent from the field.

Considering Kaman is on an expiring contract, a veteran and still a productive player, the Lakers could probably get something in return for him. If that's the route they decide to go, don't worry about Kaman—he doesn't care.
