After Kaman continued to put D12 on the line, Howard said some words directed at the opposing big man to voice his displeasure.
According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin via Twitter, Kaman responded by saying the following:
While repeatedly sending a player to the free-throw line isn’t exciting for fans, it has proven to be a viable strategy. Howard was sent to the line 24 times in total, and he only cashed in on 10 of them (41.7 percent).
He entered the night shooting 55.3 percent from the charity stripe as a member of the Rockets. He’s a 57.6 percent shooter for his career.
While the hack-a-Howard plan didn’t help the Lakers win the game, it continued to prove how uncomfortable Howard is at the free-throw line.
Despite the woeful shooting night from the charity stripe, though, Howard wound up with 20 points and 13 rebounds against his former team.
Kaman—who recently voiced his displeasure with his role on the team—played 14 minutes off the bench for head coach Mike D'Antoni. He finished with five points, five rebounds, two blocks and five fouls.
