The Kings were currently on a five-on-four power play and by rule would have been on a five-on-three in the waining moments of the third period. The call was not seen by the on-ice officials at the time. No penalty was assessed on the play amidst a slew of protest from on-ice players and the Kings bench.

The Sharks went on to win the game in a shootout.
According to Curtis Zupke of nhl.com, when asked after the game by reporters about the incident Clowe replied, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Rich Hammond also talked to Kings governor Tim Leiweke who had some choice words for Clowe's conduct stating, "It's a shame that a guy can cheat and get away with it in a game this important.''
Clowe was named the second star of the game, being involved in two fights, and scoring a goal.
The Kings will meet again on Saturday in San Jose at HP Pavilion where the Pacific Division title will likely be on the line barring a Phoenix regulation loss. Both teams had clinched earlier in the evening with Dallas losing to Nashville 3-0.
