Los Angeles Kings vs. Phoenix Coyotes: Bad Breaks, Bad Call, Good Goaltending

The Los Angeles Kings lost to the Phoenix Coyotes 2-0 last night.

The Kings played what may have been one of their best games in a while.

They put plenty of pressure on the Coyotes and spent plenty of time in the Phoenix zone.

The offense and defense both worked hard throughout the contest. Indeed, the Kings outshot the Coyotes 36-15. The 15 shots against are a season low. (The franchise low is 10.)

Defenseman Willie Mitchell even had a number of great opportunities near the start of the game.

However, they were not rewarded for their efforts, as Phoenix netminder Ilya Bryzgalov stopped all 36 shots and played a very strong game. They also suffered many near misses and a number of bad breaks.

The first period ended in a scoreless tie. That would change in a controversial manner in the second.
