Los Angeles Kings Break Out In Third Period To Defeat Washington Capitals

The Los Angeles Kings and Washington Capitals faced off in a matinée matchup yesterday at the Verizon Center.

Superstar Alexander Ovechkin got the Capitals off to a fast start as he scored a mere 66 seconds into the game.

After allowing that goal on the game’s first shot, Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier would stop all 22 shots that followed.  Bernier was given the nod in net over usual starter Jonathan Quick because this was the first of back-to-back games for LA.

The first period was a weak one for the Kings, but they would turn it around.  The momentum started to shift on an Anze Kopitar goal about halfway through the second period to tie the game.
