Wayne Gretzky was of course one of the two players, as the Great One scored a whopping 40 points (15 goals and 25 assists) over the course of a 24-game playoff run that ended with a 4-1 series loss to the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Final.
Tomas Sandstrom (1984-1999) complemented Gretzky by scoring 25 points (eight goals and 17 assists) that postseason, after tallying 52 points in just 39 regular-season games.
Kopitar's 22 points (five goals) have come in 18 games, as the Kings were forced to seven games by their first two playoff opponents.
The Slovenian forward scored 10 points (four goals) in a first-round series against the San Jose Sharks, helping his team come back from a menacing 3-0 series deficit. He scored at least one point in each game of that series and had four goals and two assists over the final three contests.
A second-round matchup against the Anaheim Ducks brought more of the same, as Kopitar recorded a point in six of seven games and finished the series with nine points (one goal).
After notching just a lone assist through the first three games of the ongoing series against Chicago, Kopitar earned first-star honors Monday night on the strength of a two-assist performance.
With his Kings holding a 3-1 series lead, Kopitar will have at least three more games to get the three points he needs to match Sandstrom for second place on the franchise's single-postseason points list. Gretzky's record of 40 points is seemingly out of reach.
